 BIO

Born in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, Ana Bernstein is an artist and a scholar. For the last twenty years she has been photographing New York City, especially the Lower East Side, documenting the profound transformation of the area, once known for its low rents and Bohemian scene. She divides her time between Rio de Janeiro and New York City. Recent shows include Picturing America at 1650 Gallery in Los Angeles, Home: Where we Live at MPLS Photocenter Gallery in Minneapolis, Coney Island Always at The Open Lens Gallery in Philadelphia, and Hudson Reveries at the Yonkers Riverfront Library in New York.
